Description
In the 18th and early 19th centuries, decorative woodcarving was commonly used to embellish wooden objects, including historical pieces such as flintlock rifle stocks. European and British examples often displayed highly refined artistic detail compared to early American work.
Master craftsman Mike Miller from Edmonton, Kentucky demonstrates how to design, lay out, and carve an elegant English shell pattern inspired by traditional designs. This shell pattern appears simple but is deceptively difficult to master.
The techniques demonstrated here have a broad range of application for decorative relief carving on wood in traditional and historical styles.
Mike also discusses the carving tools he uses, as well as the critically important aspect of sharpening them. This DVD includes a detailed demonstration of pattern layout and carving on a finely crafted wooden project inspired by American colonial design traditions.
This is an instructional woodcarving DVD focused on decorative techniques. It does not include the manufacture, sale, or modification of firearms or firearm components.
